Business coaching

Plenty Systems offers coaching to business owners and managers who seek dramatic improvements in both their business and in their personal leadership, business and managerial skills.

Many owners and managers find that they can’t afford to devote a significant part of their free time studying a business course—let alone finding one that addresses their ‘real-world’ challenges. Our business coaching program offers advice and guidance within a structured coaching program—when you need it, and in the areas of relevance to you—from experienced executives who have proven and successful backgrounds in growing businesses and in coaching business owners. Our coaches are all former business owners, general managers, commercial managers or marketing managers.

And this is the key to our success—the quality of our people!

Once perceived as a perk reserved exclusively for senior executives at multinational corporations, business coaches are today just as likely to be found in start-ups and in small-to-medium businesses.

Business coaching benefits

The goals of our business coaching program are to encourage business owners and general managers to:

► Become strategists. Make and execute plans and keep a watchful eye on the strategic picture rather than concentrating on day to day operational tasks, including:

• setting realistic and achievable goals.

• creating a strong business model supported by powerful plans to achieve these goals.

• measuring and comparing outcomes against goals.

• concentrating on the key areas of revenue, margin and cash-flow rather than reacting to daily bank account balances.

► Have access to an advisor—and a confidant—and a mentor—who is also an experienced and successful business manager. It is lonely at the top, and a good coach will provide:

• objective advice on the business conditions and operations.

• unbiased opinions.

• assistance in your decision-making process.

• someone to whom the business owner is accountable.

► Increase business skills and knowledge. Your own personal development is an important outcome of a business coaching relationship and will be vital as your business continues to grow.

► Create successful businesses—in terms of profitability, personal satisfaction, as a valuableasset for its shareholders, and being ‘sale-ready’. (Whether or not the business owner intends to sell, a ‘sale-ready’ business is a more valuable asset that provides better returns.)

► Improve ‘business as usual’. View problem-solving and process improvement as a continuous operation. This helps to stop managers concentrating on ‘putting out fires’.

► Save time—Both in terms of reaching your goals quicker and in the amount of time you need to spend in your business.

Coaching focus areas

We concentrate on seven business areas, with the amount of effort devoted to each area being dependent upon the specifics of you, your business and your goals. These key areas are:

► The profit equation (refer below)

► Business processes

► Marketing and promotions

► Sales

► Customer service

► Operations and logistics

► HR and team building

Our coaching programs

The first step is to design a business coaching plan tailored to your unique requirements—co-authored by you and our business coach. This will define the goals, objectives and schedule of the coaching program, with emphasis upon creating “SMART” (specific, measurable, attainable/realistic and timebound)goals and objectives.

This initial meeting with our business coach will take between half a day to one day to complete, and enables your coach to learn as much as possible about you and your business by reviewing your current business state and analysing historical trends. We’ll look at your business and marketing plans, and review with you all of the key business knowledge areas to help identify areas of personal weakness.

The plan will then:

► Establish and prioritise the goals— defining where you are currently and where you really want to be.

► Establish the benchmarks. How will progress be measured? How do we collect and quantify the evidence proving beneficial outcomes?

► Set timeframes

► Define the coaching process—deciding when and where you will meet, and how and what you will review.

Your individualised business coaching plan will cover the next 12 months and will contain the stepby-step procedures that you and your business coach will work through as you proceed through the program—essentially a ‘road map’ for your business development. You'll walk away with acomplete list of strategies and ideas that you're not currently using in your business, as well as having identified those you're using that can be improved.

We then help you to make your goals a reality. You will engage in weekly coaching meetings and calls where, together, we review your company’s ongoing performance—and your personal performance—and determine how to resolve problems, how to improve processes, and how to create new solutions, strategies and business systems that allow you to achieve more and work less.

Is there a contract?

There is no long-term contractual commitment. Our agreement can be terminated by either of us ‘at will’. After all, if you don’t see the benefits of the program then there’s little benefit in forcing you to participate! We do recommend that clients work with our coaches for a minimum of 12 months. No one can solve all of your issues within a few weeks, and the 12-month period allows us to focus sufficient attention on each of the different areas of your business. Within a short period you will see your goals become reality and you will have the confidence, knowledge, and skills to make it happen—again and again—even after your initial program is completed.

Who uses business coaching?

Start-up companies: Planning a business requires a very different set of skills compared to managing a business. Business coaches can assist in selecting the appropriate business structure; creating the strategic and operational plans including business/revenue models, marketing and sales plan, and operating procedures; creating the measurement systems to monitor performance and effectiveness; locating professional service providers; deciding between hiring versus outsourcing; and getting orders ‘in the door’.

Growing companies: It can be quite difficult to transition from the “content expert”—the one creating the product or delivering the service—to the leader of the company. Coaching is a very useful tool to assist in this transition as it helps develop the appropriate goals, creates and communicates strategic plans that are aligned to those goals, implements and manages the processes consistent with the plan, ensures that growth is at a controlled pace, and it will guide you in hiring the right talent, developing sophisticated operating systems, delegating authority and responsibility to others, and focusing attention on the long-term vision.

Established companies: Executives must address the changing needs of customers and stakeholders, and increase productivity and efficiency. Expansion into new markets and new product launches present unique challenges for which business coaching can assist.

Companies in change: Major change such as a sale, merger or acquisition of the business requires unique leadership, management and communication skill-sets.

How much does this cost?

The price will depend on the scope and complexity of the coaching plan. Your business coach will work this out with you so that it´s appropriate for both your business and your budget.

However, to consider the price of the program as an expense would be doing it a disservice, as the returns on this investment will quickly pay for the coaching itself.

For example: If your company enjoys an annual revenue of $1M, it will gain $10,000 of improved revenue for each 1% increase in sales conversions that we achieve! (That is, an increase in sales conversions by a modest 20% equates to a $200,000 increase in revenue!) Equally powerful results will be achieved with increased production or procurement efficiencies!

In fact, everything you do with your business coach is an investment in your future. You will generate powerful results within your business and you will gain a valuable entrepreneurial education—allowing you to repeat your business success in other endeavours.
